Trash and Recycling 

Trash curbside pickup and Recycling is provided by Department of Public Utilities Solid Waste Division. The fee for weekly pickup is $15.00 per month ($30 bi-monthly). 
 
Each home will be provided with a 96-gallon. Additional super cans for $65.00 per cart. To order an extra super can, please send email to utilities@henrico.us.

 

On your trash collection day, please place your containers to the curb by 7:00 a.m. Your cart should be at the curb with the arrows facing the street and the lid closed. Carts must be placed within eight (8) feet of the pavement and not be blocked by cars or other obstructions. They should be at least three (3) feet from mailboxes. 

 

Please do not place additional bags or other materials next to the cart. Trash that is not placed inside the cart will not be picked up.

Did you know?  Our Standards and Guidelines state "Containers shall be stored in such a manner so that they cannot be seen from adjacent and surrounding property" and our Declaration and Restrictions Article VI, Section 9 mandates "...trash shall be stored and screened from public view...except on days designated for trash pick up by the County of Henrico..."

Bulky waste collection - this service is available for $43 per request (please call 804- 501-4275 to obtain this service)

 

The following Unacceptable Trash removal items will not be collected, and should not be placed in the trash can or set out for pick up:  highly-flammable substances, hazardous waste, construction debris, liquid waste, toxic materials, radioactive materials, asbestos, infectious or medical waste, petroleum contaminated soil, dead animals, paint, manure, or other dangerous materials as determined by state, federal or local law.

 

**Holiday  and Inclement Weather Schedule**

 

No trash collect on the days that fall on a County holiday.  If holiday falls on Monday or Tuesday trash collection will be on Wednesday. 

 

All remaining collections that week are one day late. County holidays observed are: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day . Trash will be collected on Columbus Day or Presidents’ Day.  They do not operate our collection routes when the County is closed due to inclement weather. All remaining collections for the week are delayed one day for each day the County is closed.

Bulky Waste Collection

 

Large household item such as furniture, appliances, bagged leaves and brush can be disposed of through bulky waste collection. This service is available for $43 per request. To obtain this service please call 501-4275 to submit an online application click here.

 

Pick-up of your items will occur within 2 weeks of order placement, so please have the items at the curb prior to calling. Existing customers will be billed on their existing account. Those without an account will be invoiced once the items are collected.

 

Eligible materials include: - Bagged leaves and small items - Limbs no larger than 4 inches thick and 4 feet or less in length - Refrigerators, air conditioners and other devices that hold Freon will cost an extra $15 per item ($58 per pickup) to meet federal recycling rules - Furniture

 

Retrictions: Items not collected include: - Dirt - Liquids - Car parts - Gas cylinders - Tenant eviction waste - Construction debris - Hazardous materials - Materials left by contractors, realtors or developers - Land clearing debris (trees, stumps, large woody waste, and rocks)

 

 

Household Hazardous Waste

 

As a homeowner, you can take old gasoline, oil or paint that you don’t want to the County landfills, which have containers for recycling these materials. Public Use Area information listed below. Please call the numbers below for further information and fee schedule.

Curbside Recycling Collection

 

Henrico County residents whjo live in a single family detached home accessible from a public road curbside recycling collection service is available to you through the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA). This service is free to county residents and collections are every other week.  The annual Curbside Recycling Collection Schedule is mailed to all eligible homes in January. The schedule illustrates when collection occurs.

Please remember that recycling bins must be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on collection day and there is no need to cover your recycling bin when it rains. Sorting of recyclable materials is not required and bottles and cans should be cleaned of residues and caps and lids discarded in your regular trash. Glass bottles, metal cans, #1 and #2 plastic containers, newspapers, and mixed paper are accepted in the curbside recycling program.

 

  • Wheel kits are available for your bin at a nominal cost.

 

  • When you move, leave the CVWMA recycling bin at your old house for the next resident; the bin is the property of your local government. Call CVWMA for information about recycling at your new house.

 

  • You are encouraged to keep a record of the serial number of your recycle bin(s) should you need to identify it in the future. Recycling Hotline: (804) 340-0900

 

Recyclable items are also accepted at our drop-off locations at most fire stations and the Springfield Road and Charles City Road public use areas.
